Jakarta, Indonesia
19 to 21 August 2014
EOC representatives were among eighty participants from nine countries that gathered in Jakarta to exchange best practices in land cover and land use assessments, and discuss strategies for building national land cover datasets.
EOC presented on Core Environment Program and wider ADB experience with land use mapping, including forest cover mappingin biodiversity conservation corridors as well as rice farming distribution in Cambodia. Upcoming work for CEP was also discussed, such as a regional forest cover and land use mapping exercise and a capacity building initiative on land-use change modeling.
A key message from EOC was that while best practice for mapping and building national datasets is important, more effort is needed to ensure mapping information informs planning processes, for example, through strategic environmental assessments.
The ‘Technical Workshop on Integrating Forestry, Wetlands and other Land Use/Land Cover Data for Greenhouse Gas Reporting’ was organized by the Asia LEDS Partnership.
