Monitoring change in GMS biodiversity landscapes
On 21 June, National Coordinators from the ADB-funded Biodiversity Conservation Corridors (BCC) Project met with EOC staff to discuss a monitoring framework for measuring the outcomes and impacts of biodiversity corridor investments in the GMS.
Monitoring indicators and data requirements were identified and EOC has committed to provide the project with ongoing technical support for monitoring. A key aim is to ensure comparable monitoring across GMS biodiversity landscapes in which the BCC Project and Core Environment Program are operating. EOC will share the monitoring data as it comes available through its online GMS Statistics Portal.
The $69 million BCC Project investments were one of the major successes stemming from the Core Environment Program’s Biodiversity Conservation Corridors Initiative (BCI), which piloted integrated conservation and development from 2006 to 2009 in seven landscapes involving five GMS countries.
Under the BCC Project, the initiative is being scaled up in Cambodia, Lao PDR, and Viet Nam while the Core Environment Program will continue pilot work in PRC and Thailand.
